Mississauga, Ontario -- Dr. Robert Pacione (aka “The Fastest Dentist) will be leading an impressive three car team of race prepped Ford Mustangs to Newfoundland for the 2006 edition of Targa Newfoundland, North America’s premier Tarmac Rally (September 9-16, 2006)
Targa Newfoundland is the only event of its kind in North America. It is a 2200km automotive race, taking place on paved roads throughout the province of Newfoundland. In 2006, this event is expected to attract in excess of 90 race teams, including some factory sponsored teams.
What makes Targa so unique and exciting is that the cars compete on public roads. During “transit sections” (during which the cars travel from stage to stage) the vehicles must follow all the rules of the road. The “Targa” stages (or speed sections) take place on public roads that are closed to the public, but some of them cut through residential areas.
Dr. Pacione, along with navigator Brian Maxwell, will be piloting their Vibrant sponsored silver 1999 Ford Mustang in their third consecutive Targa rally. Last year, the Pacione/Maxwell team finished 2nd in their class. At the 2004 edition, they wone the “Spirit of Targa” award. This year, they aim to finish at the top of the podium while giving the spectators who line the course during several of the stages an entertaining showcase of driving skill.
The other returning member of the Pacione Motorsports team is the orange 1999 Ford Mustang with Rick McLeod behind the wheel and Steve McKelvie in the navigator seat. This car puts down an impressive 700hp to the wheels and will be competing hard for a top finish in their class.
The newest member of this three car team is the yellow 1994 Mustang owned and driven by Afshin Montazeri. His navigator is Paul Brown.
New for 2006, the Pacione Motorsports technical team has established a website for race fans who are interested in getting a realistic feel for the Targa experience. They have installed the Pacione Race Cam System (which is a 4 camera in car video capture system) in each of the Mustangs and will be broadcasting live from each car, over the internet.
